The Atlanta Mandolin
Society is proud to have revived the mandolin
orchestra in Atlanta. For over thirty years, beginning
in the early Twentieth Century, there was a very fine
mandolin orchestra in Atlanta under the direction of
William Griffith. Mr. Griffith a mandolin instructor,
performer, conductor and instrument dealer operated in
Midtown. Mr. Griffith created quite a rage for the
mandolin during the first decades of the previous
century and is fondly remembered by many.
The Atlanta Mandolin
Society is establishing it's own history today!
The Atlanta Mandolin Orchestra (AMO), established in
1994, is made up of mandolinists, guitarists and
bassists, who have joined together to form the
performing unit of the Atlanta Mandolin Society.
AMO, under the direction of Robb Smith -conductor,
performs selections ranging from Turn of the Century
Rags and Marches, Classical, Latin, Irish, Jazz,
Brazilian, Ethnic compositions to Seasonal
compositions.
The Atlanta Mandolin Society, Inc. is a 501(c)3
non-profit corporation which was founded in 1994 by a
dedicated group of mandolinists to further the
interest in and performance of the mandolin family of
instruments and mandolin music.
